Butter is one of my weaknesses that I love smearing on everything from bread (and cornbread!), warm biscuits to corn and potatoes. While salted butter is delicious, this Whipped Hot Honey Butter is next level good. It’s spicy, sweet, creamy and so so good. I originally created this butter as part of a cornbread recipe, but quickly decided it was so delicious it needed its own post.

Ingredients You Will Need
- Butter: I recommend softened butter that is room temperature; cold butter may not mix as well. You can use salted butter or unsalted butter (add a pinch of kosher salt if you use unsalted).
- Honey: I prefer raw honey, but clover honey will also work. Finding a local honey provider that offers pure honey is even better if you can locate it in your area.
- Hot sauce: Use your favorite hot sauce and adjust the amount to suit your taste.
- Red Chili Flakes: A little goes a long way, so use more or less, depending on how spicy you want it. You can also omit it altogether.

Butter Tip
Using room temperature butter will make this recipe much easier to mix and whip properly.

How to Make Whipped Hot Honey Butter

- Whip the mixture with an electric mixer of choice on medium speed for 1-2 minutes until it’s light and fluffy. Scrape the sides of the bowl to make sure it all mixes together well.
- Store in a glass jar.

Adjust The Spice
Start with less hot sauce and red chili flakes to begin with, and taste it, and then add more to your liking.

How to Modify
- You can adjust the hot sauce and the red chili flakes to make it as spicy or mild as you like.
- For an Asian feel, try using a scoop of Chili Crunch. Start light, taste, and adjust accordingly.

Serving Suggestions:
One of my favorite ways to enjoy this whipped hot honey butter is on Gluten-free Jalapeno and Cheese Cornbread or Cheddar and Chive Biscuits, or homemade bread or hot dinner rolls.
This spreadable whipped butter would also be delicious on a roasted sweet potato or baked potatoes, or smear it all over corn on the cob.
Enjoy this melted on a delicious steak like this Ribeye Steak, or sauté your chicken or shrimp in it to take them to the next level.
Common Questions
Prep this a week in advance to be enjoyed throughout the week on cornbread, biscuits, your favorite bread, roasted sweet potatoes, and more. Store in an airtight container or butter bell. It will lose its fluffy texture after going in the fridge but can be whipped again with an electric mixer to regain its texture.
Allow the homemade honey butter to cool before covering it with a lid. Store in an airtight container. It will keep at room temperature for about a week, and for about 2-3 weeks when stored in the fridge.
If you prefer, you can use unsalted butter and then add a pinch of salt according to taste. Salted butter would not require this step.
Clover honey is the most versatile and accessible, but wildflower honey will give you a more earthy and floral honey flavor. If you want a bright and citrusy honey, then orange blossom honey is a great option.
Yes! Be sure to taste it and make sure it’s what you want, and add more hot sauce if you want it spicier.
